❗Fuel Adjustment Charge for March Utility Bills❗

❗Fuel Adjustment Charge for March Utility Bills❗

The City of Fredonia is advising utility customers that their March billing statements, based on January's usage, will reflect a higher than normal Fuel Adjustment Charge. The higher Fuel Adjustment Charge is a direct result of energy market volatility within the Southwest Power Pool during the severe winter weather event that occurred in late January.

The Fuel Adjustment Charge is a standard line item on utility bills that fluctuates based on the actual cost of the fuel and purchased power needed to provide electricity to our customers. The winter storm which impacted the Midwest in late January caused the price of wholesale electricity within the Southwest Power Pool to rise significantly above average.

Most utility customers will not experience a drastic increase in the total dollar amount due from their February billing statement. The highest increases across all utility accounts are between 5% and 10% from the amount due in February to the amount due in March.

March utility bills were emailed to customers yesterday and paper copies will be mailed out to customers this morning. Please contact City Hall at (620) 378-2231 if you have any questions related to your utility bill.
